2023-2024 Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MSU-COM)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I have been complete since late November and still waiting for an II. Non-traditional applicant. Undergraduate education completed at foreign non-Canadian institution (all courses conducted in English) WES equivalency puts my undergrad GPA at 3.48. I have a master from NYMC in biomedical science with a GPA of 3.71. App totals are MCAT 502 (>125 in all sections but PSBFB which is 124) cGPA/sGPA 3.54/3.54.

I am OOS but have strong ties to MSU (if accepted I'll be 3rd Gen legacy student at MSU not specifically MSU COM, I would be first gen doctor).

Anyone else in the same boat? Or do we think it is because it is likely because of my foreign transcript. Is it worth reaching out to admissions to ensure that my WES transcript wasn't overlooked by accident? I don't want to come across as impatient or worse still, come across as critical of their review abilities... any advice?

I would recommend submitting an update letter/letter of interest. Try to include something that shows you've been staying busy and making progress on yourself since submitting your application!

Does anyone know when waitlist movement typically happens for this school?

I just asked the admissions committee this question here is their response: "We typically see most of our waitlist movement start in May, and continue into June and early July. "

Just had my interview here today! It was very laid back and relaxed which was great. I hope there are still spots open here and I'm not interviewing for the waitlist.

Not sure if the situation is different these days but a family member that's an MSUCOM grad said the COM and CHM students took the same classes in preclinical
Nowadays they do not share the same facilities in East Lansing. The MD School also has their main base in Grand Rapids now. But yes MSUCOM functions basically like an MD school. An abundance of research opportunities, connected to a large public academic institution, several home residency programs, and other things you would see at an MD school. Many of the doctors within the state of michigan come from MSUCOM including the sub-specialists.

Has anyone heard back from 12/13 interviews?
As of yet I only know people that have heard from the 12/4 interview date, but anything after that?

Is there any non Canadian international student that has gotten a scholarship here?

Are they still sending out IIs?
Yes, the last day they accepted secondaries was February 1st so they have to still be reviewing those and sending out IIs. I also have friends from last cycle that got accepted a couple weeks before the class started and interviewed a short time before that.

Interviewed that day too. Still nothing:/
It’s okay! Based on what everyone’s saying and what my friends who have been accepted, I don’t think they’ve reviewed those interviews yet. We should be hearing back soon after the 12/7 interviews hear anything.

Submitted early July with no interview yet, is there still a realistic chance?? I am an IS applicant with strong ties to the school.

It’s actually shocking how behind they are, at this rate I feel like the people who interviewed in January won’t find out until April lmao

Dang! I was told I'd hear back within 30 days on 1/11
Usually that’s how long it is but anyone who interviews in December-January usually has to wait around 8 weeks because of the 2 week winter break.

I was told 4-6 business weeks for 12/7 interviewees so that would make this week the 6th week

Just for anyone on the WL I talked to someone at the school and they said interviews will go through about the end of March and then they'll start pulling WL spots and that they have a lot of movement into June even.

Anyone know if the waitlist is ranked? Was looking at other years for this school and it seemed like there were tiers

I got an II today.. submitted secondary on Feb 1st. OOS student... I never expected this. Are they just interviewing for WL spots?

Wow congrats. What were your stats?
Hi!! It is 509 3.69cgpa. OOS.
I was wondering do they like interview a lot of students or just few who they want to know better and have a higher chance iof getting in? I hope they are not interviewing just to waitlist and backup. Crazy thing is i submitted secondary just a day before deadline. Also any interview suggestions will be appreciated?

Thanks.

just got the A call. 12/7 interview. will decline and hopefully goes to someone <3
