2023-2024 Carle-Illinois

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Remember that likely only a few accepted applicants have withdrawn. Significantly more will withdraw after they get their financial aid. People also may withdraw if they don’t get their financial aid in time by May 1st.

^ this. A majority of WL movement will happen after May 1st, and it’s a small class size so we’ll see less than other schools at this point.

In the GroupMe chat there was a lot of discussion about clinical opportunities and financial aid

Everyone seemed pretty negative
What was the discussion about clinical opportunities? Is there a significant lack of clinical opportunities for Carle med students compared to that of other school? It’s understandable that this could be the case as it’s a fairly new school and has a strong engineering/research focus.

Just finished second look... gotta say that some people were not impressed by the financial aid aspect. Many of the people I met said they will hold onto their A until the last minute possible to see if Carle will offer any scholarships.

A new accepted student poll

Likelyhood of attending?
25% - 2
75% - 2
100% - 7

Its over
To be honest, the people who are more likely to matriculate the Carle are generally the ones answering the polls.

Based on the poll responses, the estimated average likelihood of attendance is approximately 79.69%. Therefore, the estimated percentage of students that will decline their acceptance is about 20.31%. Based on the extrapolation, approximately 14.63 (~15) members of the total 72 accepted students are expected to decline their acceptance.

Notably, 72 members is greater than the maximum possible number of 64, so it is possible that 8 members have already rejected and have yet to leave the group. It is also possible, however, that the 72 accepted students are the only students who will ever be accepted, since 8 may be expected to decline leaving 64/64 slots taken.

However, based on the current information, the expected declines seem to align closely with ensuring all 64 slots are filled without needing to pull from a waitlist.

In short, while I admire your optimism, I will choose instead to panic and complain to my mommy.

You have to take into account the number of additional spots that will open up on May 30(ish)--probably quite a few. I'd expect another 15-20 will be pulled off the waitlist at least. The majority of schools accept about 1.6x their class size, which would be 102 for Carle (so far there have been fewer than 80 by my count). Additionally, Carle has offered acceptance to more like 2x their number of seats in the past. There might still be 40 or more people to come off the waitlist for all we know. It's hard to say for sure, but I'd say there's a good chance of a lot more movement.

If anyone following my road to the Olympics, my vertical went down by 3 inches. I'm sure Jalen would be proud 🤧

The fact that the Carle SDN page is the one page with this level of goofiness rly speaks to the types of ppl it attracts. I like it :)

When is the last minute possible?
May 15th is the hard deadline to commit or withdraw from Carle. However for other schools, it is April 30th so I think that near that date, some people might withdraw

I'm tryna still confirm this but I'm pretty sure all, if not most schools, have CTE deadlines either on or after May 15th. In Texas, that's the last date currently accepted applicants can be taken off another school's waitlist. Not that Texas supersedes everything, but they'd have to allow applicants to still see how their waitlist pans out before requiring them to drop it - not sure about UTSW tho, it might have an Apr 30th deadline

Anyway, just a PSA: there's a 2-week timeline to either accept or decline a Carle A after May 1st; 15th is the CTE deadline. If you're pulled from the waitlist after the 15th, you're allowed 1 week to either accept or decline a Carle A. Late June is the latest we could possibly get an A - based on MSAR & verified by admissions. MSAR says June 20th but that's the for the next cycle in 2025 - not sure abt the specific date for this cycle

Info like this doesn't help our apps in any way but it gives something to look forward to. Or be pretty disappointed at. Some emotion at least

That’s a really early CTE at least for the schools I interviewed at, most of my schools are late Jun - early July

I was saying most CTEs are no earlier than May 15th. Can't confirm if my reasoning is the same as why Carle has CTE on the 15th. But Apr 30th for CTE, like funfriendlyfiller was asking, seems ridiculously early to drop all waitlists. I've heard some schools do have it tho

Although the CTE deadline for Carle is May 15th, midnight EST on May 1st is when "Applicants accepted to Carle Illinois have until midnight EST to decline all offers except Carle Illinois". This means that people with multiple acceptances including Carle will need to limit their acceptances to either Carle or another school with no limit on waitlist positions. May 15th is the CTE deadline, meaning admitted applicants must commit to Carle and withdraw from all other waitlist positions.

This means that the majority of WL movement should occur on May 2nd. Some more movement should also happen after May 15th if people get off the waitlist somewhere else and decide to go there instead of Carle.

@2023applicantxd I know Carle’s CTE deadline is May 15th. You thinking to keep the A if you don’t get something off your waitlists? I mean that would be the safest move but jw

Yep
Not doing this process again just gonna grind my ass off at Carle
Even if it does happen, Carle seems to match well enough for you to see TX again for residency. This year’s matches were decent. Caliber was there, location wasn’t - at least not for TX. But prob is more interest based than to do with their merit yk

I did hear a lot about Carle matching ppl in transitional year programs. But didn’t see any of that when they had the match day livestream, unless ppl are saying they matched IM when it’s just a transitional year

Yk I actually haven’t ever heard someone say they matched to just a transitional year at any school when they have students declare their matches on the podium

But then again, since the first class, Carle has allowed ppl to decide if they wanna disclose their match

So I’m wondering how ppl figured out that students matching to solely transitional years was going on at Carle to begin with

Yes, I did. It was a bunch of emails that are no longer relevant including emails about being accepted the class of 2027 class. Perhaps it was a technical snafu?

Just got a status update email, A off the WL!

FYI, reapplicant to Carle and got post-showcase rejected last cycle (my only II). For anyone else still waiting, don’t give up hope!

3 As reported on cycletrack today. Thank you to those who report their As so we know whats going on.

so we thinkin' they done w the WL or nah

There’s no way they are done imo, it’s only the first day on movement. Still a lot of people waiting on other waitlist movement. We have a deadline of May 15th and they said based on who drops there may be more movement after May 15. I’m most likely going to drop my A but going to do some more research. Hang in there, hoping there’s more good news soon.
