At its June 14-16 meeting, the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) granted provisional accreditation to the educational program leading to the MD degree at WMed. This next level of accreditation granted by the LCME confirms that the MD degree program at WMed meets nationally accepted standards of educational quality.
This is an important milestone in our multi-year medical education program accreditation journey. Since 2011 during the earliest days of the new medical school’s planning, we have been preparing for program accreditation. In November 2015 we submitted 2500+ pages of required documentation, and then hosted a comprehensive survey visit in February of this year. We appreciate the involvement of the more than 120 faculty, residents, staff, and medical students who met with the LCME survey team in February and the many others who have been developing, implementing, and improving the medical school curriculum, processes, and policies over the past several years to be accreditation-ready.
