what volume of cases and complexity is needed to hire a Pathology assistant?

we have 20K cases, mostly biopsies but some colon, gyne, breast and GU. Also some autopsies. 1 assistant can do them without backlog. Although another center with a similar workload does not have assistant and pathologists do their own large specimen grossing but not smalls, while a third center with less volume and complexity have 1 assistant. So it really varies and depends on ur budget.
 
25K cases, lots of larges (breast, colon, GYN, GU, lung) and also lots of biopsies, prob 50/50. We have 1 PA for larges and 1 grossing tech for biopsies. They each help with frozens as well.
