It was just on the portal, sort of relieved that I heard something so I can at least stop obsessively checking it 24/7
Still obsessively checking 24/7 šŸ˜

How long after your status was "under review" on the portal did anyone's change to being on the waitlist for interviews? Mine still says my application is under review (since 9/21)

On 9/13 mine said ā€œSupplemental Application Review
We have received your VMCAS application and supplemental application. Your application is currently being reviewed for an Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) invite. MMI invites will be sent starting in the middle of October to February 2023.ā€

Then on 9/21 it updated to the MMI interview hold.

I received an email indicating my application was on hold due to one of my three GPAs not being a 3.0, and they are currently reviewing the rest of my application before sending out a supplemental application. Anyone else receive this email? I hope the process doesn't take too long.
My friend also received this. Iā€™m not sure when they will be done reviewing

Hi guys, just wanted to know does this mean I have until Sept 29 11:59 PM to do it? Or does it close earlier?

Right! You have until Sept. 29. Although the sooner it is done the better lol

Any tips for Kira? Mine is tomorrow and I am terrified šŸ˜µā€šŸ’« Is it mainly typical interview questions or are some based on your application and/or the school? All help is appreciated by this first-time applicant!

There's 1 question specifically asking about why you are picking UofA and they weight that question heavily apperently. During my app review they said that I did well on the kira but "needed to know the school more" so definitely do your research.

why the better? Does admissions prefer it to be a quick turnaround?
Not necessarily, it is just the sooner the better imo because I overthink drastic situations if I wait until the last minute  but that is just personal preference šŸ˜

So just to be clear I can do it the day of the 29th right? I'm getting anxious that I should be doing it tomorrow but I'm busy pretty much all day tomorrow and would rather do it on the 29th

How long after submitting supplemental apps did everyone's portal change? I submitted on the 13th and don't have any updates but trying to be patient!

I submitted my supplemental (Kira Talent) on Sunday and my portal has just updated to say they received it so far!

I would say it is fine! Just try to do it before the time they sent it to you. For example if they sent it Sept. 19 at 10 am, do it before 10 am on the 29th. That way you have time to do it on time and submit it on time! :giggle:

Mine says MMI waitlist as well from 9/21. Part of me is hoping that is just what everyoneā€™s portal is saying until they sent out invites in mid October like the previous update says.

That is what I was hoping as well!!

When yall get updates did it send you an email? Or should I just be checking my portal?

Just the portal for the most part, I havenā€™t gotten an email update since they sent me the supplemental and thereā€™s been several portal changes since then

So I know I risk sounding dumb, but I cannot find a link to the portal you all are talking about and I fear I am LOST in this application cycle. Can someone send me the link? I searched my email for a link and nothing. I did complete the Kira, but saw nothing more than that. TIA!

U of A will send an email with the subject line ā€œSign up for your application status portal!ā€ And they give you your username and a temporary pin. If you submitted your application closer to the deadline its possible that they still need to get to you in their queue.
I submitted my app on 8/17 but didnā€™t get my portal information until 9/9.

Anyone else feel like they did poorly on the Kira? I canā€™t stand watching myself speak on video so the format was a nightmare for me, I ended up just stuttering at the camera like four separate times šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø Really hoping this isnā€™t weighted super heavily and trying not to be upset over it, but I feel like I just shot myself hard in the foot.
I honestly felt like I did poorly on that too :(

Just submitted my Kira. Don't think it went too great but not completely horrible either . šŸ˜– Good luck everyone!

The U of A has released the NAVLE pass score for its 1st graduating class. They had a 72%, and they needed an 80% to gain full accreditation. Keep this in mind as you go through the application and interview process.

I got this last year and again this year. I got the email for a supplemental last year around Late October. So it can take some time.

I feel like it's odd that this information is nestled away in the FAQs - this is pretty serious, and what exactly happens to the class of 2027 if they do not reach their goal next round? We would not find out until the summer of 2024 when people are already committed to a school. If they lose accreditation, would those committed to the school simply not matriculate and just have to apply again the following year? So concerning and I wish there was a little more forwardness about what the plan is.

For real, it comes off as a little shadyā€” like theyā€™re trying to hide or minimalize it. Whether or not the c/o 2027 is affected, Iā€™m going to be putting some thought into whether I still want my app in consideration with them if they donā€™t become considerably more transparent about this as U of AZ was near the bottom of my list anyway due to the climate and 3-year model.

I know itā€™s anecdotal and not the most official source, but I thought you guys might find the recent discussion on this comment thread concerning this and U of AZ student preparedness for rotations interesting too as it adds another layer and some outside perspective.

Agreed! The lack of transparency is startling. This is information that affects all current and prospective students, and it feels like it is not being appropriately addressed.

Out of 110 students, 30+ people in their class did not get licensed... Insane. I had hope for the three-year model, but at this point, I'm considering withdrawing my application. Sucks that this is my IS :(

Trust me, I'm not happy they buried it either. I'm an undergrad professor in a vet sci program. I've been helping my students all year get prepared for VMCAS and interviews. I've been scouring the internet since June trying to find this info, and still didn't find it until a vet in practice told me it was out. I've had my concerns since I interacted with some of the 4th years during their rotations and I was working as a GP. They seemed less prepared than I would've liked.

Hahaha whoops hope you donā€™t mind the feature, I shouldā€™ve known SDN and the veterinary school subreddit would have more than a bit of overlap

Edit: Paying attention to usernames wouldā€™ve helped too šŸ„²

It's ok. I thought it was funny.

Honestly a bummer. UAZ has been my number one school this entire process, but I am beginning to second guess that now. I assume they are now under "Probationary Accredidation" but not sure what that means for student who matriculate while the school is under probation. Furthermore, what happens if full accredidation is not reached in 2025? Are all the students essentially screwed?

These are all good questions that I wish I had answers for. They need to do a major overhaul of the curriculum if they want to have any chance. They can't claim it's because they're new. Midwestern's 1st graduating class had a 92% NAVLE pass rate. They dropped down to 81% in 2020 and 80% in 2021, but that's likely thanks to covid. Tuskegee University's 1st year was 81%. Western U is also newer and 1st class had an 89% pass rate. It's quite doable to have 80% pass rate 1st time.

I believe their accreditation status has always been in the FAQ section of their website.

Yes, their accreditation status has always been in the FAQ section. While the pass rate is a huge disappointment, we can't forget that the initial class started in August 2020 and their classes were online due to covid. I'll be more interested in what the pass rate is next year.

Though this may be true, if you look at pretty much every other vet school's website, it's very easy to find their pass rates. Pretty much all the others have it on the page, not in a tab. And I know it happened during covid and everything, which makes it even more difficult. Was this because of covid or is it a problem with the program? All I can comment on is my experience mentoring 4th years while I was practicing. I, and many other doctors I've talked to, felt they weren't prepared enough for clinicals. They also didn't really require specialty rotations to graduate. 1 student I mentored was doing almost entirely GP in small or large animal. I think they had 2 rotations with a specialist. Unfortunately c/o 2023 was their guinea pig class. I hope 2024 will have more success.

I understand covid may have affected these scores...yet every school experienced covid. We did not see this failure among other programs as a result of the pandemic. But I hear you, and appreciate your efforts to shed some optimism on this.

How many of those other schools had the pandemic as their inaugural year? Yes, the school has issues they need to address but I think it's too early to trash the entire program based on 1 set of scores.

Many have said the inaugural class wasn't ready for their 3rd year clinical rotations but how is the current group of 3rd year students doing during their rotations? How do they compare so far to those that just graduated?

I totally understand the concerns people have but I personally have faith the program will be successful as they overcome their growing pains.

Never said trash the program, but I absolutely feel they need to look at how everything went down with that class and how they can improve the program. Them blaming it all on covid helps no one. My entire point for all of this was to make sure prospective students know where the school is sitting right now so they can ask questions. U of A should also be transparent of "these things didn't work so we're revamping them to improve our student success". They don't have to have it all worked out right now, but they should be upfront about it. Both LIU and Texas Tech had inaugural classes during covid, but being 4yr schools, we won't know until at least next year how they were affected.
