Hi all,

I have heard various recommendations regarding the importance of second looks regarding the med/peds application/interview process-- some saying that it is essential and others saying that it can only hurt your chances of matching. Can anyone share your thoughts regarding the importance of second looks?

Thanks!

Ranges from no-impact to "oh, he's interested in this program since he came back for a second look".

Will it overcome red flags? No. Can it bump you up a few slot on the rank list - maybe.

Can it hurt? If you come off as a weirdo, or someone whom the residents and faculty conclude would not want to work with, then yes, it can hurt. If you can get along with residents and faculty, then it can't hurt.

But Second Looks are more for you to learn more about the program/institution before committing to it, not to impress the resident selection committee. Take advantage of it to learn more about the program that you didn't learn during your interview.
