No, malpractice premiums in psych is on the low end. Generally, the stuff that they get sued for is when a pt commits suicide (ie they failed to admit the pt), when a pt kills or hurts someone else, and they get sued for having innappropriate relationships with pts. With regards to innappropriate relationships, since some psych pt's have personality/psych disorders that cause them to lie about such matters, sometimes you have pt's who go around suing all of their psychiatrists for innappropriate relationships. It's usually fairly easy to prove that these pt's are lying by establishing a pattern of this, but it stinks to be the first psychiatrist sued in that case before a pattern can be established.
