Wait, the $67.90 was after a 20% increase? For contractor rates? And that is 2X the competition?!? What doctoral provider in their right mind is seeing telehealth patients for like 30-40/hr for reimbursement that they still have to pay taxes on?

I mentioned engaging with Talkspace a few years ago...just received this email today. Wow.

Hello,
As a former provider, we wanted to reach out and share some exciting updates.

Through focus groups, user interviews, and provider surveys, we've heard our provider network loud and clear. Talkspace is more committed than ever to improving the provider experience, starting with a number of major platform investments in 2022.

First up: we recently increased provider pay by 20%. You can expect to be reimbursed $67.90 per hour for Live Sessions (live chat or video) – nearly 2x our competition. And you can still earn bonuses ranging from $100 to $5,000 by maintaining long-term client relationships on the platform.

You can find more information on updated rates under the FAQ's on our network page.

Next: we've removed the reply-by feature (which previously impacted response times). We hope this change will allow clinicians to better manage their own well-being while caring for the well-being of others.

We'd love to reconnect! If you’re interested in working for Talkspace again and would like to hear about other provider incentives we're working on, please re-apply.
And yet there are providers who continue to work for them o_O

There are nursing home folks working for that and they have to drive to the facility and deal with other headaches. Talkspace would be an upgrade at the low end of the scale.

I worked for Betterhelp while I was getting my practice set up. Max I made was 600 and that was devoting three mornings to it so about 15 hours. Earlier poster was spot on about dong it for some quick cash. It also was helpful to understand that workspace and the market. I just transferred last patient yesterday. I would rather work for Walmart and I hate Walmart. I have to be nice about it though because it was a helpful platform for a friend of mine who has referred several good clients my way and is likely to continue to be a valuable referral source.

Neurobehavioral Consultants: Outpatient Adult Neuropsychologist, PT or FT, independent contractor, fee splitting arrangement, no benefits. My private practice was built for the neuropsychologist to be able to work remotely and make their own schedule. We have an EMR that handles scheduling as well as clinical documentation. We have more than enough referrals for you to be as busy as you want to be. All scheduling will be done for you with reminder calls/emails. The psychometrists are all employed by me so their time is included in the fee split, you do not have to pay them separately. Our billing service tenaciously works to obtain the highest reimbursements possible and in a timely manner. The neuropsychologist will need to be in the office only when they want, and to drop off/pick up files. We enjoy a reputation for high quality work and our expertise is valued by our referring docs, particularly in Neurology, Geriatrics, and Family medicine. You will see that certain physicians refer frequently and repeatedly, patients often refer family members and friends. We are the preferred provider for Indiana Physician Assistance Program, and Indiana's Judges and Lawyers Assistance Program. We receive a broad range of referrals for differential diagnosis including ADHD, ASD, concussion/TBI, general neurologic conditions, and dementia. Any interested party should email their CV and cover letter to me at [email protected]. Feel free to email me with any questions or to discuss the position in more detail.

Indianapolis is a great place to live. As the 12th largest city in the US, the cost of living is a fraction of larger urban centers without sacrificing on the richness of the urban experience. Indianapolis hosts a number of professional sports teams, world class museums, beautiful parks and bike paths, as well as a number of waterways accessible to the public. Eli Lily, Rolls Royce, Angie's List, Salesforce, and a number of other multinational corporations call Indianapolis home. Between Butler University and Indiana University/Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), there are always interesting cultural events on the calendar. The art/music/food scene has exploded in the last 10 years, providing many opportunities for exploration. An international airport makes travel easy as well.

Thanks.

Surprised they didn't ask for your first born child and then call it "a special investment in your retirement" fund.

I so wish I had done more neuro/assessment in my training. I feel pretty good on general psych assessment, but just cannot imagine making a practice out of that (I touched forensics briefly in school and want no part of that!)

Luckily, a lot of people want no part of that, and it allows those of us who do to charge pretty hefty fees.

I'm just saying, if you want good $$$, come on down to the Houston VA. We are paying our GS-11 psychologists $93,452, GS-12 psychologists $112,010, GS-13 psychologists $113,194, GS-14 psychologists $147,395, and for those brave souls who want a GS-15 position, $176,300.
I'm guessing there's maybe a typo in the GS-13 pay, given the small increase relative to the listed GS-12 pay?

Still, as I mentioned in the other thread about the special rate pay, it's good to see a larger hospital paying higher rates for psychologists. Higher pay for some is generally better for everyone, since that theoretically means other hospitals (in the Houston area and beyond) need to also pay more to attract psychologists.

Indeed. $133,194. My mistake :p

POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP IN DIGITAL MENTAL HEALTH

Northwestern University’s Center for Behavioral Intervention Technologies (CBITs;  www.cbits.northwestern.edu) is seeking applicants for our NIMH T32 postdoctoral fellowship, “Multidisciplinary Training Program in Digital Mental Health” beginning July 2023.

The highlights:
  • Work with a cohort of postdoctoral fellows
  • Lead self-directed research projects with multidisciplinary teams
  • Receive mentorship from both mental health and human computer interaction researchers
  • Become a leader in digital mental health research
This fellowship focuses on mental health, and brings together a cohort of fellows in psychological science (psychology, psychiatry, and behavioral science) and human-computer interaction (HCI; computer science, communication, engineering, design, and human factors). The program provides fellows with research training and mentorship in both mental health and HCI research with the aim of preparing the next generation of digital mental health researchers. The program is co-led by Drs. David Mohr PhD, Darren Gergle, PhD, and Emily Lattie, PhD. Drs. Mohr and Lattie are experts in the use of technology and psychological approaches for the treatment of mental health conditions. Dr. Gergle is a leader in HCI as applied to medical settings with expertise in qualitative and quantitative methods.

CBITs provides a unique scientific home for interdisciplinary scholars working in psychology, HCI, computer science, biostatistics, implementation science, and health disparities. The mission of the center is to design, evaluate, and sustainably implement digital mental health solutions in the context of real world care settings.

Fellows work in a variety of complementary lines of research focused on digital mental health. This work will include collaborations with specialists in HCI, mental health, implementation science, social influences, and mental health disparities. The successful candidate will take a leadership role, overseeing individual research projects in multidisciplinary teams. Mentorship is available from experienced researchers who have federal and foundation funding including Drs. Mohr, Lattie, and Gergle, as well as a variety of other faculty in both clinical science and HCI (see Multidisciplinary Training Program in Digital Mental Health Mentors).

The primary objective of this fellowship is to prepare the individual for an academically oriented career in fields relevant to technology and mental health. The fellow will have access to data for publications. The successful candidate will have a strong record of peer-reviewed publications and experience in digital mental health research.

CBITs is dedicated to training fellows that will enhance diversity and equal opportunity in higher education and digital mental health research. As our healthcare and academic institutions serve increasingly diverse constituencies, it is vital to understand the ways in which differences in gender, class, race, ethnicity, religious affiliation, and other identities can both divide us and offer us better ways of thinking and working. The CBITs faculty encourage applications from diverse applicants and are committed to training fellows to work in an increasingly diverse society by promoting equity and justice for all individuals, actively working to eliminate barriers and obstacles created by institutional discrimination.

To comply with NIMH rules, fellows must be US citizens or have permanent resident status. We are reviewing applications on a rolling basis. Appointments are for one year, renewable to two and will begin July 2023. To apply, send CV, statement of research interests and goals, three letters of recommendation, and 1-2 reprints or preprints of scientific publications to David Mohr, PhD, and Emily Lattie, PhD, care of Sarah Hill  [email protected]), Center for Behavioral Intervention Technologies, Department of Preventive Medicine, 750 N. Lake Shore Drive., 10th Floor, Chicago, IL 60611. Letters of recommendation may be emailed by the recommender directly to [email protected]. Review of applications will begin in December, 2022.

I recently enabled the "open to opportunities" option in linkedin and got this one today. $90/hr doesn't seem too bad...I'm curious how this compares to other regions?
anyone have similar postings? Mods, would a sticky "Employment Opportunities" thread be useful?
This is Kaiser. Don't. Just don't.

Can you please tell me more? As someone who would like to end up in California, many of the employment opportunities are through Kaiser.

Kaiser grinds through providers, particularly in mental health. The caseloads are unreasonable, so much so staff went on strike. Kaiser has paid millions in fines over the years, but won’t change bc they make so much it is far cheaper to just pay the periodic fines. They dangle slightly higher than average positions and then bury the clinician in work.

Kaiser cares not for you, patients, or other professionals at all. They are all about money for themselves. It is reportedly like working in a hellish sweatshop. Nobody I know will even consider working for them. I turned down a well-paid contract job with them during the strike because before I ever interviewed they were telling me how, when, and what to practice - things like "behavior therapy only - NO psychodynamic", "10 visits only", etc. you cannot legally classify people as contractors and then treat them like employees, yet Kaiser does that. Kaiser also has absolutely NO respect for the law.

Got an email from a friend who works for CDCR (California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation). They’re offering $170/hour for contracted psychologists in some prisons. That’s per hour worked, not just per face to face hour. No benefits since it’s contract work but that calculates to about $326,000/year.

EDIT - Just reread the email and it’s $160/hour for about $307,000/year

I have friends in this system that are no where near that. I would be curios about reading this if you can PM me.

Which prisons? Keep in mind that in many prisons the problem will not be the inmates, but rather the guards. Guards in general do not believe in mental health and do not believe that inmates should have anything that makes them more comfortable, which can make prison work hell for people who believe differently - like Psychologists.

Looks like the highest pay prisons are Soledad and Stockton. He sent me an application through the contract agency which is apparently called Imperial Locum Services, APC.

He didn’t send me a link or anything so all I know is what was in the email. I can’t vouch for the agency or anything like that.

Depending on pay and proximity, I would choose Stockton as opposed to Soledad. Stockton is a dedicated mental health facility. Keep in mind that they will get rid of you as soon as they can. The kind of money you are seeing is reserved for Psychiatrists who only write meds.

Neurobehavioral Consultants: Outpatient Adult Neuropsychologist, PT or FT, independent contractor or W2, no benefits. We receive a broad range of referrals for differential diagnosis including concussion/TBI, general neurologic conditions, and dementia, with ADHD and/or ASD also available. Any interested party should email their CV and cover letter to me at [email protected]. Feel free to email me with any questions or to discuss the position in more detail.

Indianapolis is a great place to live. As the 16th largest city in the US, the cost of living is a fraction of larger urban centers without sacrificing on the richness of the urban experience.

You could earn up to $105/hour churning out ESA letters on Pettable if you want something higher.
LOL, don't tempt me, bro. I've read the entire literature on this (over my lunch break) and I have a laptop and a printer.

There is currently a recruiter looking for Board Certified neuropsychs, but they're reimbursing about a quarter or so of what you should be charging for these evals/per time spent. I asked the recruiter about it and they claimed to already have onboarded 30-something people in the last month. Who are these people willing to do forensic work for pennies on the dollar?

This question gets asked so much. Hungry people, stressed people, people who don't know/weren't taught their worth, people with limited options. I mean, why ask who takes these jobs when practically everyone is so cagey about actually saying what they charge. Like, the actual number. I recently had an old supervisor tell me it's illegal for them to tell me what their hourly rate is. For example, I think my state contracts with psychologists to do forensic work at somewhere around $100/hr. If that's the only number I've heard, I might think that's a decent amount.

Where is it we're supposed to get this information if no one talks about it and the only offers we see are the poorly funded ones? It's a genuine question. I'm so exhausted from trying to research rates and asking early to mid career psychologists what they charge for forensic work.

I've had the opposite experience, actually. People have been very open about discussing rates locally/personally. People will generally not answer that question on a professional listserv, as they're worried about issues around price fixing, but in personal conversations, I've had no problem discussing fees with people.

Oh wow! I clearly need to be trying new approaches to this, then. lol I have NOT had that experience at all. I understand the concern about price fixing and that experience and location has to factor into things, but I just have not had much luck. Even in some personal conversations. Thanks for the tip. :)
