I see you are from PA. Are you coming out here with your family? I only ask because it has been pretty hard on me, being from NEPA, to be this far away from my family. Just something to think about. Random, I know.

No, I would be out there alone. I do have some family that lives in Davenport, Iowa, but I am not really that close with them to begin with, and Davenport is still about two and a half to three hours away from Des Moines.

Anyway, even if I got into somewhere like Penn State and decided to go there, it is still three hours from my family, so I would not see them that much anyway.

Do you know what is really cool?

Having TSA steal my cell biology notebook for no apparent reason then not having internet access of Turkey break. I am so about to get owned on this test hahaa

Do any of you guys know when DMU typically awards its scholarships?

Maybe you have to write a letter...Mine will say, "Dear DMU, I love you, but do you think you could give me an $11k/year scholarship so I don't have to go to UMDNJ instead?"

Actually - I think if you have the numbers, they just automatically consider you and let you know, but since that's not me, I am not sure. I think if you ask Boner in the C/O 2011 thread, he'll know.

I think its a 30 MCAT and 3.75 GPA, but I could be wrong.

You know you're in med school when...

-You stay up until 2:30 AM solidifying your Cell Bio knowledge, and get up at 6 AM just to polish up, and just because you didn't memorize random extraneous facts (CC 16 protein?) you still get owned...
-about half of the pictures on the practical portion of the test are things you've NEVER SEEN BEFORE ("Ward's Biological..." "Beautiful striated duct seen to our advantage...")

So much for studying the objectives at the beginning of every lecture noteset! Also, I really wish there was a better way to LEARN structures for the practical instead of just memorizing exactly what everything looks like and getting screwed when you see a slide you haven't seen before:(

Not like I will ever be a histologist. This is the one class I have not even put a small amount of effort into haha. WHEN THE **** ARE WE GOING TO GET CLINICAL?

2 hours and 17 hours is a big difference my friend.

He definitely should have put Clara 16 protein. I looked at that one and smirked. Kind of obscure, definitely not the norm for Canby who is probably my favorite professor and one of the best in the school.

But then if you read the clinical forums, everyone there is complaining that all they do is scutwork during third year! "Is there ever going to be a time to enjoy medical school?", she wonders....

How bad is it, though, Jamers? Honestly, enough that you'd go closer to home if you could, even though you love DMU?

Enough that I look back and kick myself for not going closer when I had the chance. You just need to take everything into perspective. I live 1,000 miles away, my gf is a teacher so she can't just drop everything to move out here and my father is sick. So, yes, I would love to go closer to home right about now.

I know they automatically consider you if the numbers are a 30+ MCAT and an overall and science GPA of at least 3.50. I was just wondering, however, if there was a certain month they usually make decisions on this.

they might let you know a couple days after you get accepted, if it is later in the year, or they might award it several months into your first year of school. Even if you don't quite fit the criteria, they still might consider you.

I didn't realize Dr. Fisher loved OMM so much. I think he should change his name to A.T. Fisher. Anyone have the direct quote from notepool?

may be our "administrators" who are so concerned about promoting DMU..would think twice next time before letting "someone" go....considering how *@*#& our OMM department is now!

oh...but didn't you read it in our honor code that the our "entire" objective for every course has been and will be to "memorize"!!!????? hehe...don't be upset at the objectives..I never paid attention to them, but I hear professors have to include them as part of their "job descriptions"....you see..they're just doing their job

You know where to find me.

Damn son...I thought I had a lot of pent up aggression from only getting action once every three months. You and me need to have a shot or 12.

The more I watch UFC the more I want to fight. Anyone wanna get together and box? Yes, I know we have a former UFC contender at DMU but I think he would destroy me. I haven't boxed in about 2 years. Maybe if I scream out, "Icelanders are a bunch of inbreds," I will get my shot...hmmmm. I miss fighting...so much aggression gotten out by "teaching" others how to defend themselves by letting me kick their heads in :)

Just want to give you a little friendly warning...careful what you say on these sites...they are open to all...and trust me...people read them. ;) I am sure B is no longer at DMU for good reason, whether it was admin's choice or his...

Oh yeah...and nice screen name. What a coincidence.

The story I heard was that he left due to family issues. I never met him but I hear he was a God.

People really kind of speak of him as if he were a martyr (despite the fact that he's obviously still alive). It's funny how people remember others after they have left.

I personally have only met him once, briefly. Thus, I have no real opinion on him.

He was amazing (still is...as he is not dead ;) )...and is very missed! Anybody can teach us OMM (some better than others)...but it was his enthusiasm...it was somehow contagious and really made us all look forward to OMM. Keep your hopes high...it will get better...and give the new fellows when they come, a cleat slate...;)

Cheers

Does anyone ever type naked? It's so free. Soundman, I am naked....

Why must you constantly be fantisizing about me? Do we have issues...Dang that was a stupid question. Does jamers have issues...Let me peruse his posts...ummm yep issues, most dealing with sexuality, porn, or masturbation.

Anything else....nope, don't make me get my wife to go UFC on you, she will, and then you'll wish you were in PA.

Freak, I've been scared since last week! Kill me.
Are we there yet???????:scared: :scared:

I am in full survival mode. No denying that.
Now only if I had the mental capacity of soundman and the janitor, then I would have it made. Oh well, what can you do. I've been lubed for the last 4months.

Dude after finding the cock roach at that place? It's the mongolian chinese bar on Ingersoll. It's the bomb. Or gives you the bombs. Anyways, I might be eating with the family, they might come and visit their long lost father in prison, errr school.

Otherwise I might be game.

That is, unless we make a blitz for your thread first! AHAHAHAHAHA

On a serious note, where are decent areas to live that are within reasonable distance of DMU? Waukee, Johnston, Urbandale, West Des Moines, etc....? My special lady friend and I will be house hunting sometime in March and thought it would be a good idea to start building contacts with realtors starting in the new year. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Anyone else think that test was kinda difficult? Only 40 points, now that is a bummer.

Yes. I thought it was far more specific than he was leading on, but that's just me.

I'm sure the average will be about 89% even still.

Can someone please clarify. Which lectures for Cell are the capstone ones that we have to go over on our own? Aren't they the Neoplasia one and GI IV. I thought Canby did GI I-III, and left 4 for us to do, but on Blackboard, it has a link to a video for GI I (part 1 and 2)? I'm confused, because I missed the first part of GI I that was scheduled last Friday.

Any help would be awesome.
