Was just wondering, how do you handle the situation when patients ask you about your personal life (spouse, children, etc) but you're not "traditional?" Or perhaps middle-aged and never married? Would you share this info? Do you think this would have an impact on your career or your patients?

I would just answer as honestly as possible but only however much comfortable you are with disclosing said information and probably gauging how receptive a patient would handle it. Its 2015 and I can only hope that whatever your background is should not be an issue in your professional life but I know sometimes we live in a close minded society

I just tell them that we're here to talk about them, not about me, unless there's some connection that the patient has disclosed that would allow for a better overall interaction professionally.
