The Department of Dermatology at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY is offering a 1-2 year research fellowship under the mentorship of Dr. Jared Jagdeo. The position is available starting July 1, 2019.

Description: Dr. Jagdeo is an Associate Professor of Dermatology and Director of the Center for Photomedicine at SUNY Downstate. Dr. Jagdeo is an expert in lasers, light, and energy-based modalities, and is actively investigating novel treatment options for various skin conditions. His basic science and clinical research focuses on cutaneous photobiology, wound healing, skin fibrosis, skin cancer, and immunology. Dr. Jagdeo and his research team have successfully completed various clinical trials and published over 90 peer-reviewed journal articles. As a physician-scientist and attending, Dr. Jagdeo is actively involved in teaching and mentoring fellows, residents, medical students, and undergraduate students.

Fellows will participate in a variety of basic science, translational and/or clinical research projects, and be actively involved in NIH-funded and investigator-initiated industry-sponsored studies. Fellows will have abundant opportunities to publish and present at national conferences, and are encouraged to author 5 or more publications per year, which previous fellows have achieved. Fellows will receive direct mentorship and guidance on how to write grants, design clinical trials, and submit protocols to industry and the Institutional Review Board.

This fellowship is ideal for medical students and physicians who plan to pursue dermatology residency training. Past fellows have successfully matched in dermatology.

Availability: Start date July 1, 2019 (flexible). Fellowship offers are made for 1 year with the possibility of extending to 2 years.

Eligibility: Only students who will have completed the 2nd or 3rd year of medical school, or MDs who have completed PGY-1 by the start of the research fellowship are being considered at this time.
