Hi! I'm currently a senior at my college and graduating this May. I plan to apply to vet school this cycle. My top choice is Tufts. My school does not offer Anatomy & Physiology, so I will not be applying to any schools that require it. MA resident.

Cumulative GPA: 3.7 (currently in my last semester, hoping to maintain this average-- also taking physics this summer and biochem in the fall)
science GPA: 3.6
last 45: anticipating 3.7

Earning bachelor's of science in Biology in May

GRE results: 153/166/6

Veterinary Experience:
- Part-time job as vet tech starting this June (16-24 hr/week) likely transitioning to full time in September (30-40 hr/week)
- Internship at wildlife clinic anticipated August-September 3 days/week for 6 weeks
- Shadow every week at small animal clinic near my college-- great relationship with vet there. 80 hrs total
- Emergency hospital/critical care in NYC shadowing-- 24 hr total
- Large animal shadowing 14 hr total
Total shadowing hours so far: 126

Animal Experience:
- Animal Care Workstudy student in the research animal facility ~500 hr (working with rats, frogs, fish, mice)
- Herpetology Lab workstudy student-- took care of amphibians (frogs, salamanders), reptiles (snakes, alligators), etc. for animal care and educational events. Hard to put an exact number on actual hands-on experience with them, maybe 50-60 hr? over 2 semesters
- Bee Club president-- bought bees, hives, bee husbandry, mobilizing members, etc.
NC State told me we could put high school animal care experiences on here as well, so...:
- Horse husbandry during high school at riding barn
- Cleaned/cared for dogs & cats at animal shelter in high school also

Research Experience:
~1678 research hours, worked every summer doing research on salamanders and two developmental biology projects. My most recent summer I spent at a research facility in NY where my program had a 2% acceptance rate. I also did research on African elephants during my study abroad program. I will be submitting a manuscript for publication ideally by the end of May. I have also made 7 presentations at biology conferences, at my school, or for my summer programs.

Awards/scholarships:
- Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society
- Cum laude (anticipated)
- Music scholarship
- A bunch in high school for different subjects, community service, leadership, etc.

Extracurriculars:
- Instrumentalist in my school's orchestra all four years
- Was service chair for my social organization, raised $21,000 for charity, organized ~800 hr community service events for members
- Writing Center tutor at my school
- Tennis club
- Volunteered at a local (human) health clinic from 1/17 to 1/18

Employment:
-
Current workstudy student in the biology department, also paid for being a writing tutor
- As stated above, will be working as a vet tech beginning in June of this year

Thoughts about my chances? I am also wondering how many schools you guys suggest I should apply to. Like I said, Tufts is my top choice and I don't want to spend tons of $$, but I also know the process is a bit of a crap-shoot. I've heard different advice from different people.
Also, I know my Q score on my GRE is low. The admissions counselor at Tufts didn't think I needed to take it again b/c my verbal score compensates. I know at other schools it may be more of a problem.

Also-- I am working on increasing my vet experience hours, I know they're pretty low. That's why I'm working as a vet tech during my gap year.

Thanks so much!!!
