Types of Toenail Removal

Are there different types of toenail removal procedures that will give differing results? I have seen pictures where the nail bed is completely smooth and level with the rest if the toe. Others show no nail but, an outline or what looks like a very thin skin covering.

I doubt that the procedures used for these 3 patient photos were intentionally different. In other words, sometimes the results turn out different for the exact same procedure.
