We are launching a research that focuses on how to combat the long waiting lists in developed countries such as USA, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Australia etc., by outsourcing Cataract and all low risk surgeries to private Operating Rooms operated by outside corporations instead of the hospitals.

As you all know, the next 10 to 20 years will be problematic for baby boomers in obtaining health care at a reasonable time frame. We are investigating ways private corporations could help combat this problem head on, instead of leaving these huge problem to governments of these nations to fix.

Currently Private clinics charge huge amount to patients, forcing million of patients to stick to the public health care system for their health care needs. We are researching for ways to close this gap.

These research will be published all across the world. It would definitely help enhance the image of the participants either while at school or in the real world.

This already exists in US and I'm not aware of long lines in US outside of of VA system. One advantage of private medicine.

Excellent. Could you please share a link to such research?

There's a long waiting list for cataract surgery in the US? That's news to me (other than what I've heard/seen about the VA)

This sounds like it is only applicable to socialized health care system. There is basically no wait for cataract surgery in the United States (at least for private practices). I own an ASC and we have tons of throughput. We can basically get anyone on the schedule at any time, and the usual bottleneck is clearance by the patient's PCP.

Long waiting lists for cataract surgery are not an issue in the US. In most if not all private practices, signing up for cataract surgery is a quick process, and the day of surgery is more dependent on what days are assigned to you at your ASC to be most efficient. Reason for this is because most private ophthalmologists will do all their cataracts in one day to be cost and time efficient. Most patients have private insurance or Medicare, which cuts out a lot, if not all, of the pocket cost. Wait times at the VA are more an issue of patients getting through the bureaucratic system to get a cataract evaluation. Once they're in, wait times are dependent on how aggressive staff is there. Most of the time it's senior residents doing the surgery so most are fairly aggressive with wait times typically less than a month, if that.

As others have said above, the rate limiting steps in getting cataract surgery is getting cleared for surgery and ASC surgery dates. The only time cost is a real issue is for premium options such as toric or multifocal lenses, which are out of pocket but not necessary for 20/20 vision.
