I have a simple question really. I am writing my statement of purpose right now and I was wondering if I should mention the specific school I’m applying to in the SOP.

For example I want to say “.....I seek admission in _____________ graduate program....” the blank being the specific school I’m applying to.

Is that a good idea or is it something i should avoid?

SOPs are generally supposed to be specific to the school you are applying for. Have you looked at the prompts for your schools in the SOPHAS application? All of mine include "why do you want to apply to our school/this program?"

I strongly recommend that you name the specific school when writing your SOP. You should tailor each SOP to the specific school you're applying to, citing unique things about that school that make you want to go there (for example: researchers who work there, research centers that are there).
