Are oral surgery internships accredited by CODA? Are there any standards to such non-categorical residency position? How does one go about forming one?

Internships are not accredited by CODA. Anyone can start an internship that is why there is such variability in training and experiences among internships. My two cents are as follows: find an internship that will challenge you and allow you to learn. Hospital based internships are usually pretty good as they teach you the hospital etiquette that dental students are not taught. SoD based programs are good if they are affiliated with an hospital and the intern is taking trauma call. I would avoid internships where all you do is supervise dental students or take out teeth for someone else with minimal to no trauma call or hospital experience. There are exceptions but that is the common opinion among PD's.
Lastly, if you are an intern: you are....the first to show up, last to go home, you never ask to leave, you value every patient experience is an opportunity to learn. And finally, be prepared, communicate well and be honest. Follow these tenants and you will succeed.
