65 yr old mother c/o sharp stabbing pains in the sole of heel when walking. For ? reason she went to an orth. surgeon who x-rayed and examined the foot. Said he did not see any foreign substance on x-ray. Said he thinks it is a "calcaneous heel" and that there is NO spur noted. Mother said sometimes the pain is so bad when she walks that she has to shift weight to the upper sole (under toes) to relieve the heel pain.
The orth. surgeon injected directly into the heel ?. She said the injection was horribly painful. Said after that paid subsided that relief on the heel lasted approximately 3 days and was back. Dr. did same thing and said "this should fix it for good". She got relief for about 5 days this time. Now the pain is back once again.
I told her to stop going to the orth. surgeon and see a podiatrist asap.
Do these symptoms sound similar to anything you are familiar with? Any idea/suggestions of what might be causing the pain? Thanks!
