Hello guys,

I am a Med Student from Portugal and currently I am in the 4th year of my studies. Since the beginning of this year I started thinking about my future residency, and since Portugal has a lot of troubles regarding specialisation (pretty tough national exam + not enough formative offer for all the medical students) I started thinking of doing residency abroad.

The first thing I decided is that I wanted to go to an EU country to take specialisation, then I thought of learning German because it enables me to go to Austria, Switzerland and Germany with just one language (I am A1 and at the moment studying for A2).
Despite the idea of going to a German Speaking country is not yet a decision, I would like to know more details about this (I already searched on the internet and I found some information regarding Germany but not many info about Switzerland or Austria).

Some of my questions are:
1) What is the country that I am more likely to be accepted to be in Cardiology or Anesthesiology medical residency (no problem in going to no central cities)?
2) I know that I need to do a 9 month long "Basisausbildung" in Austria before Medical Residency, is it the same regarding Germany and Switzerland?
3) Is C1 German a good goal for studying in these countries?
4) I heard the Fachsprachenprufung exam is just an exam where they evaluate if I understand medical terms in German with no real medicine theoric evaluation, is that true? If yes: Is there any medicine theoric Exam I need to pass besides the Fachsprachenprufung?
5) Then, I read that the CV is kind of what matters when getting a medical residency spot. Is there any type of things that I should focus on to have a good CV and be able to get better spots?

I am sorry for the big amount of questions

Thank you all for the help,
André

Hello, André! So, It's a lot of questions indeed. As you are Portuguese, tem uma médica brasileira chamada Lidia Poppe que tem um site explicando todo o processo para fazer residência na Alemanha!
