Job Summary

The Research Fellow will participate in a research fellowship in a one (1) or two (2) years research immersion aimed at creating highly accomplished researchers. Research will be carried out in Surgical, Medical, Emergency and Pediatric topics. This is an unpaid role, requiring a minimum of forty-hours completing research activities on weekly basis. The role will be within the Trauma Services at OSF Medical Center, Peoria, Illinois USA. The Research fellow will receive training at a rapid pace from staff managing national and local databases, as well as performing prospective trials. The Research Fellow will be expected to attend Departmental educational conferences and interact with medical trainees as well as attending and nursing staff. The Student Intern/Research Fellow will work on various projects, collecting and analyzing data, and assist with teaching national courses such as, stop the bleed, etc. The Research Fellow will be expected to submit several publications and presentations during their fellowship. Overseas graduates and clinicians are welcome to apply.

OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, located in Peoria, Illinois, USA is a teaching hospital for the University Of Illinois College Of Medicine at Peoria and part of the OSF Healthcare System. Peoria is the largest city on the Illinois River with a major medical district and easy access to Chicago. Peoria is a major port on the Illinois River for trading and shipping. The city is centrally located in Illinois and is an easy two and a half hour drive to Chicago, Indianapolis and St. Louis.



Level 1 Trauma Center in Central Illinois, OSF Saint Francis serves patients 24/7 in all medical specialties. OSF Life Flight transports more than 2,200 critically ill and injured patients each year.



Typical Duties

Attends daily research conference and other required meetings.

Performs Pub med research and presents results to the research team.

Drafts abstracts after consultation with statistician

Assists with organizing and completing research projects as well as creates unique individual projects, learns to whet the viability of the project; completes and submits projects to national and international meetings.

Creates, submits, and presents publications and presentations. Presents on local and/or national podiums.

Composes and submits Institutional Review Board requirements, grants, and other manuscripts as assigned.

Assists with organizing and delivering national courses as well as assist with trauma outreach to stakeholders.

Assists with quality improvement documentation and analysis within the Department of Trauma.

Assists with teaching national courses in conjunction with faculty.

Assists with educational and research needs within the department as per direction of the Chair.

Performs other duties as assigned including research projects with collaborating institutions.



Reporting Relationships and Compensation

Reports to the Research/Education Chief.

Minimum Qualifications

Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy Medicine (DO) degree, RN or foreign medical school equivalent required (Must provide official transcripts at time of interview).

Passed United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) step 1 and 2 (both Clinical Skills and Clinical Knowledge) required (Must provide proof at time of interview).
