Is it possible to do a two year medicine CC fellowship after a neuro residency? If so could you get boarded?

Possible? Maybe.... Probable? Not likely. ABIM will allow SOME latitude for non-ABIM board eligible fellows in accredited fellowships, but the cards are heavily stacked against this.

Even if you did this CC fellowship, there is no recognized ABMS board or certificate that will officially acknowledge this path. You would have to take the EDIC exam in Europe like the EM grads who do multidisciplinary fellowships.

Your best bet would be to try and do a neurocritical care fellowship after your Neurology residency. Their "boards" aren't recognized by ABMS (at least not yet) but are recognized and valued by most major hospitals, academic medical centers, (and Leap Frog) across the U.S.

You will most likely be reserved to practicing neurocritical care for your entire career though. Not too bad if you really like it.

Check out these websites. Tom Bleck, formerly of UVA now up at Northwestern was the founder and one of the pioneers of neurocritical care. They have some top-notch intensivists in their organization.
