has anyone else heard that some MD's (not sure of specialty) have started practicing "podiatry" as in cutting nails and debriding calluses...

a student in my class mentioned this. He thought this was a good thing. I assured him it was not good for the MD's to invade our profession.

any thoughts?

I have also heard of PTs, RNs, NPs and PAs doing the same. The two biggest areas that are doing this are RNs that work in dialysis centers and PTs. PTs are the one area that I think should not be doing this. MDs are trained in wound care and so are nurses. PTs really do not have the training to be doing these sorts of procedures.

I have also heard of RNs... doing this.

The thing with the MD is that they are trained enough to do this and it is like them stepping on our toes (get it... toes)

I would like to bring up a point I made earlier, just hope the trolls don't get ahold of it. I think that as a medical system we have a major need in many areas of medicine that orthopds w/ fellowships in the foot and ankle serve no purpose. If they went away, I'd be all for MDs/DOs chip and clipping b/c we'll be too busy in the OR. :D

if i translate that back to english and non-run on sentences sre you saying....

orthos with foot and ankle training serve no purpose since we are the real specialists in foot and ankle?

and if it were the case that the foot and ankle orthopods went away you'd be all for MDs / DOs chipping and clipping?

Right on, Feelogood. But you know the day is coming when pods WILL completely takeover the foot and ankle surgeries. As more and more ortho's realize they can't bill or make as good a buck this way, they'll self limit themselves to no lower than the knee. Thus, the pods will own and operate (no pun, krabmas  ) the foot and ankle surgeries. End of rant.. or is it a rave?

I have not been drunk since the bachorlorette (sp?) party a few weeks ago. Maybe I am having a flash back?

I guess since I have been quiet for a while I feel the need to speak out now.

Oh - I know what it is.

Jonwill is over working himself and I have decided to become the all knowing SDNer in his absence. Don't worry, I will absolutely step down once Jonwill returns.

Bacherlorette, I think. ;) Also, better to have flash backs than hot flashes, huh?

Anyways, yes we need a resident expert around here with so many rookies trying to learn pods. Old Feelgood has left his post too. Guess he's trying to actually learn something!

PS - Who got married? You?

I am not saying we are better than orthopods. Orthopods have said that we have more training in the area of foot and ankle pathology. This being said, gerontology needs a major influx of physicians; if all of the orthopods that were going to be foot and ankle orthopods went into that area of medicine, our patients would be better served. Doesn't it seem redundant that we have both DPMs and foot and ankle orthopods?

I'm all for patients getting the care they need by qualified individuals. I don't care if a monkey trims nails if that monkey has been trained (They also have to wear clothes b/c monkeys in clothes are funny as heck).

Also, I will make sure I use proper English from now on. I'm sorry that I did not use commas and semicolons. Are you required to take English at NYCPM?

I will be tying the knot soon. I'm trying to follow in the footsteps of the mormon's as closely as I can.

as you know I really want to be a DMUer.

To my knowledge there's no requirements for english OR clothes at NYCPM!
Maybe the Krab couldn't elaborate on this? :p

I tied my shoes together in knots once, does that count? Best of luck. Will you move to Utah to practice and marry several more times in the next few years?

I caught myself wearing the Mormon dress code at clinic on Monday. Black pants, black shoes, and white shirt w/ a dark tie.

I don't know what has happened. Somehow I think I'm a baptism away from being an LDSer. I got married, have a kid coming and I started working on my genealogy. What's happening?

Alright, I've got to go to bed. I've got clinic in BFE Iowa tomorrow from 7:30 to 5. If you talk about me talk nice. If it is not nice, then talk dirty. :D

Alzheimers can't be far behind.

You guys have too much time on your hands. Back to the original post. A buddy of mine back home (who is a pod) opened a practice with an internist he met in residency. This internist liked the clip and chipping so much that he bought some nail nippers and now does it on his patients. My friend couldnt care less because he doesnt do that much anyway. So maybe he will be refering all the clip and chip patients to the internist now.

I tried to reply to all these posts yesterday but the web was down.

so - no we do not learn english at NYCPM. it is a pre-rec for entrance so they say.

I just happen to like grammer. If the grammer is way off or the sentence is a run-on it can change the meaning of the sentence or make it have no meaning - like Feelgood.

I do not proof my posts so sometimes there are mistakes.

yes I will move to Utah and have like 6 husbands ;)

if I did that I would not have to have kids because 1 husband is like having a kid already and a few men together it would be like running a daycare.

so - no I will not be moving to Utah.

Actually, the big polygamist sect is in Colorado City, AZ. So you might want to head over there instead.

One of my best friends that I used to work with had dated a morman girl and tried to take up the culture because he claimed: "she was hot". However, she couldn't stand him after a few months, and he has not been on a date since.
