I'll be matriculating at the University of Kansas School of Medicine this fall. Is anyone familiar with their MD/MPH program? I'm planning on going into rural medicine, so will the additional MPH be worth the extra year I'd be putting into my education? This may make me sound like a nerd, but I've really enjoyed my public health classes and experiences in my undergrad career. What do you think?

Hi,
I would do it. I started an MPH at KU (although now I'll be starting an MD this fall so I'm going to put the MPH on hold). I think they often give scholarships to the MD students, so you could likely get your MPH for free :)
Seems to me like the MPH classes would be a nice change of pace, plus it's such valuable information. I think it would be applicable to rural practice, though that's just a guess on my part.
Good luck with your decision!!
