I am not in Chicago, but just as a head's up, working in the NICU is really considered a specialty, and you will very likely NOT (nor should you) get a job in that area right out of school. Generally, the road to the NICU is working in peds in general, then working with infants within a pediatric practice (preferably one that is hospital/medical-based) and then transitioning into the NICU, with the appropriate continuing ed, and mentoring, and shadowing, etc.
 
Region dependent. Classmate got signed up after her level 2 down south in outpatient peds. A lot of NDT cert folks.
