Interview for scramble?

Hello, I need to know if you go for scramble after not matching anywhere, is interview still required for it?

I've read a little about if off usmle.net where lots of people scrambled.

It seems like some people interviewed and some didn't. I think both applicants and programs want the seats filled pretty fast so the interview may only be to make sure the applicant isn't a total freak (and the program isn't beyond tolerance).

The way our school explained it to us prior to the match (just in case) was that it was usually a phone interview and most of what you do is stick close to a couple of phones, computer with internet connection, and fax machines to fax your applications.
