In my residency transfer process, the IRP has been a huge thorn in my side. If you're not familiar with the IRP: The funding a residency receives from CMS for a given resident is limited. After your IRP (which is 3-5 years, depending on speciality) your hospital will only receive half as much reimbursement for you.
Some institutions will not take residents outside of their IRP (e.g: The HCA programs). I have been unable to find a definitive list of which programs these are. Does anyone have firsthand information about specific programs?
(Hope this is the right forum!)
