Well, boys, it's been fun but I have now attained the seemingly impossible dream. I have finally secured a job in a different line of work... after almost a decade of working EM and at the same time hustling my side gig to make it happen. (Actually, to be honest, my side gig was medicine whereas my other gig was full-time but just not yet paying anything.)
Although the pay is nowhere near full EM pay, it is much higher than I was anticipating, given that I leveraged my EM salary to negotiate.
This thread's title is perhaps a bit melodramatic since I still do intend to supplement this with a handful of shifts per month (<5). Nonetheless, this is a huge step for me and one that I am absolutely thrilled about. Many of you may have remembered my mopey posts about how much I dislike EM (and medicine in general), how it is killing my soul, and how I get depression when I work clinically.
I don't want to get into details here about what my other gig is... All I will say is that you can make things happen if you bust your butt for years (and consistently) with a plan in mind. Most importantly, you should do something you love so you can excel in that thing. The line of work I am going into is a passion project/endeavor that has blossomed into a potential career for me.
I'm ecstatic and would like to change my name to Happy Bird.
