It really depends on where you live and whether or not you accept insurance. Most LCSW here in NYC do not take insurance, the clients have to pay out of pocket. And the LCSWs in private practice charge anywhere from $75 to $200 per session. It depends on your area of expertise.
Are you looking for overall salary information? I've seen LCSW in government jobs making over $100,000 per year. Also, social workers are also taught policy so many have high level administrative positions. As someone recently reminded me, the head of the psych ward of a hospital is almost always a psychologist/psychiatrist and not a social worker. But it's very likely that you'll find a social worker as the head of the entire hospital and that position is almost never a psychologist.
Also, some social workers, like Suze Orman go on to do different things with the degree. Some become life coaches. So, the salary is really what you make of it. You can specialize in a certain issue and then write books and travel the world lecturing about it. Hillary Swank 's therapist is a SW. (DSW , actually). She makes a fortune. But some social workers charge just $30 per session (that's outside of NYC, in the countryside). The salary varies so greatly for social workers, it's hard to pin down.
