As a2p2 said, this past year there were more EP applicants than spots available. Essentially all the programs filled, a significant jump from the year prior. With the rapid advancements in the field over the past few years and in the near future (PFA etc.), I don’t see it getting less competitive. From a salary perspective if you look at the ACC MedAxiom data over the past 2 years, it has the highest salary among all cardiology subspecialties (for whatever that’s worth).
That being said, all subspecialties within cardiology are less competitive to match compared to the general cardiology match.
If you’re interested in EP, get to know the faculty early for LORs that resonate your sincere interest in the field, get in on some research, and you will match.
