Your application at many schools will be scored on a points system. You get certain amounts of points for different aspects of your application (GRE, GPA, observation hours, essay, etc). There are no points for gender, race, age, whatever. Being a man won't get you into a program that you had no chance of as a woman. Gender diversity is in OT is a goal, but not at the expense of admitting less-qualified candidates.

However, your gender may be an intangible factor that pushes you over the edge in the case of a tie, etc.

In essence, demonstrate in your application why you are a good fit for the program and profession because of your qualifications, not your gender. If you can do that, diversity is the icing on the cake.

Good luck. This profession is strongest when we can represent many points of view.
