As we all know, information is nice if used properly. I would like this thread to be used to post suggested software for podiatric students and physicians.

Here are some good links to free clinical reference material. Mobile and nonmobile. If you don't have a PDA/Pocket PC, you can still access the info online.

Most of the below programs/information can be reached from one site:

http://www.merckmedicus.com/

At this site, one can gain access to the Merck Manual, 17th edition, Mobile MerkMedicus, PDR, Theradoc, etc

This site has many benefits. If students would like a free account, they can go to the following link: https://www.merckmedicus.com/pp/us/hcp/hcp_registration.jsp , enter in all appropriate data. If they want eWatch and Medline Journals to reflect an area close to Podiatry, select other under "Professional Designation" drop down menu. I then picked "orthopaedics" under the drop down box of "Specialty". When you get to the "You must fill in at least one of the following license numbers:", call customer support if you are a student and tell them you would like access.
http://www.merckmedicus.com/pp/us/hcp/hcp_contact_merck.jsp

If a physician, call customer support or enter License number.

Once the student has access to MerckMedicus, they can also get free access to Theradoc. Theradoc provides some nice CE and Palm software for antibiotic, infection (Diabetic Foot), and pain management.

Some examples of benefits on Mobile:
eWatch: Orthopaedics/Sports Medicine
Medline Journal Abstracts
Pocket Guide to Diagnostic Test, 4e
Reuters Medical News
The Merck Manual, 17th Edition

http://www.pdr.net
Physician Desk Reference with Drug lookup, interaction and hot news like FDA alerts. Call:1-888-632-9998

Suggestions from a peer of mine:

http://www.epocrates.com - this website has some useful FREE tools for you to aid in diagnosing and drug info

http://www.diagnosaurus.com - again, another program to help in diagnosing patients.

Theradoc Antibiotic provides the following:
Antibiotic Assistant
Monographs
Infection Control

Theradoc Pain Management provides the following:
Acute Pain (for adults >18 who are OPIOD NAIVE (do not routinely take opiods)
Dose Converter
Side Effects

I have also contacted:

Laboratory of Computer Science
Massachusetts General Hospital
Boston, MA 02114

At: http://www.lcs.mgh.harvard.edu

regarding Dxplain. It seems like a great diagnostic program but it isn't free. The representative did tell me: "at a relatively low royalty cost (this is the only source of funds to allow us to continue to provide access)"

Need to have your school contact them.

Please share other great programs
