VSLO application season for away rotations is upon us!

Reminder: Away rotations are typically 1-month electives you complete at medical centers outside your school. These rotations are opportunities for you to experience what it’s like to work at other medical centers in preparation for residency applications. But away rotations come with the cost of relocating for a month. And that’s where the FARMS (Funded Away Rotations for Minority Medical Students) Database comes in.

The FARMS Database is a directory of visiting elective programs offering stipends to URiM (underrepresented in medicine) students. What’s more, the FARMS Database includes details on opportunities for groups both included and excluded in the traditional definition of URiM. These groups include: racial/ethnic minorities, women, LGBTQ+, living with a disability, first generation, socioeconomically disadvantaged, educationally disadvantaged, and religious minorities.

The FARMS Database was created by students and is maintained through the Medical Student Pride Alliance.
