I generally see derms who have done dermpath, do only derm. They may read thier own slides, but only a few, who want to do academic dermpath or actually want to only read slides for big Derm/Dermpath groups do devote themselves to Dermpath after fellowship. Note that most Dermapth programs try to turn out academically oriented Dermpaths. Most of the big university programs have two years, one for research and one for the actually training. They try to avoid getting fellows who just want the one year of training. That doesnt mean there arent programs that do one year training only. If that is all you want, make sure you look for those programs and apply to them.
