Hey everyone!

I'm currently a resident in maxillofacial radiology (2nd year). So, a choice has come up to decide between just taking the certificate and opting for the masters' program (it's basically 30 month certificate vs 36 months masters').

I already have a masters' degree from my home country in the same field. Is it worth spending 6 more months, finishing a dissertation and publishing it, paying tuition worth the cost ? What additional benefit will that give me in the long run. I do not wish to pursue an academic career.

People who are already specialists, can you please provide me with some suggestions?

If you’re not pursuing an academic career, a masters is just for personal enrichment. Otherwise it doesn’t make sense financially and career-wise.

If you already have an MS and they are only to award you another MS - I’d say NO WAY! I wouldn’t do it either way if I had an option

Go for Masters, it’s only 6 more months. Having a US Masters will always be valuable. Don’t leave program in middle, get your diplomate status in OMFR and get MS, you will have better job prospects.
