Hi, I will be joining through direct commission once I graduate this May and I was looking to get some info about becoming an orthodontist in the Army. How many residents do they accept? Also what can I do to improve my chances once I will be able to apply? High GRE scores, going on deployment? Would I have a chance to get accepted within the next 3 years since I’m assuming it’s pretty competitive. Also do I have to be AD for 1 year before I can apply bc that’s what my recruiter keeps telling me. Thanks

I think they take 2 per year and it’s at the civilian program at Louisville if I remember right…good luck

It will probably take you 3 years or potentially longer to build a competitive application. If you’re only sticking around for 3 years, I wouldn’t count on it. You have to submit your active duty resignation pretty much a year before you anticipate getting out. So, really you’ve got 1 year to build an application. You would have to apply at the end of your first year to start residency at the beginning of your second year. Otherwise you’ll be submitting your resignation a little after the beginning of your second year.

I think all three branches send trainees to the tri-service program in San Antonio.
