I’m a current applicant and also had research hours on the lower end at 2000. I don’t think any of my interviewers cared how many hours I had spent in lab. What matters is the quality of your research experience. Were you driving your own project? Will you write an honors thesis? Are you well-versed in the literature relevant to your project? Will you have an amazing LOR from your PI? From what I can tell from interviews, these things matter much more than hours.
