FYI Northwestern is not in the match this year
Hey all, as we near the completion of interview offers and beginning of most of the interview process I wanted to ask how many interviews people are going on? I have many more offers than I can probably go to (I applied to too many), and am not sure how many is reasonable and what is overkill. Thanks!
Thank you guys for your input, I also think 15 is the sweet spot, and what is reasonable as a surgery resident in terms of time off. Here is who I am waiting to hear from:
Higher on my list:
Indiana
UCSD
Washington
BWH
Cornell
MGH
Penn
Mt Sinai
Wash U
Stanford
Duke
Newark Beth Israel
The rest:
UF
Tufts
U of Iowa
Kentucky
Maryland
Vidant
Wake
Hofstra
Not sure if any of you have heard from these programs yet.
Yeah I got those same emails, hadn't heard about UCSD thoughUCSD - sent invite for March 22. There was a repeat call from them to maybe change it to the week before
BWH - sent out three letters saying they would have rejections or interview offers out by the end of this month. I haven't heard anything yet
Stanford send out an email asking to clarify if I was cardiac or thoracic track (am cardiac), haven't heard back.

The chairman said they are holding someone backI wonder if they took someone internally?
Ah thats a shame, I really liked Kentucky's general surgery program back in the day and at least a few folks I've talked to who applied in the last few years seemed to really like Kentucky's thoracic residency when they interviewed. The chairman said they are holding someone back
Agreed, I liked it when I interviewed there for I6 back in the day, and the chairman is so personable, Fingerscrossed - so far I’ve just called places that haven’t sent out emails as far as I can tell, mostly they just said they are still reviewing, I did contact one that had sent out emails, but they told me the same. Not sure that they’re going to be forthcomingAh thats a shame, I really liked Kentucky's general surgery program back in the day and at least a few folks I've talked to who applied in the last few years seemed to really like Kentucky's thoracic residency when they interviewed.
Did anyone hear how many applicants total this year, out of curiosity?
It wouldn’t hurt to call the coordinators to see if invites are still being sent out. A few places do seem to send them out in waves and may start sending more out if people start canceling their interviews.I havent heard anything from many places. What would you recommend doing at this point. Seems like interviews have been sent out. Should I call or email programs to get an update and what should i say or write to them?
Does anyone know about the state of Texas Heart as a training program? If you have interviewed there, what was it like? Any advice will be appreciated.
Thanks a lot! Gives me perspective. I am interviewing there soonThe training program is massive, it takes 4 fellows each, has 4 training hospitals and has probably 20 attendings, so I think the training is still solid, I think the biggest issue is the loss of cms support for transplant, I’m not sure when it will get that back, so I think if you are interested in heart transplant (they still do lung) that would probably be the biggest negative. They said they were hoping to get it back as soon as possible, but not sure of the timing
For BWH I don't think the I6 is very old - maybe a few years, but not sure about the restAny insight into the boston programs for cardiac? MGH seems to be the most solid. Tufts seems to have taken attendings from BWH and is heavy in transplant but what else? How does BWH sustain so many fellows between the traditional on top of the I6 and also the 4+3?
Has anybody heard from Mt. Sinai? I called/emailed, and they gave me very cagey responses about how they were still reviewing applications
That's awesome, its almost April
