Wake Forest
(Waitlisted)
Pros
Good reputation
Lots of research opportunities
Tons of residency options
Cheap CoL
Strong match list
P/F with no rank
Cons
CoA is 70K+ per year. ( they haven't given out scholarship info)
Never left the Fl before and its sorta daunting not having family/friends near by.
CoA
FSU
Pros
Cheap CoA. 27k per year
Can live with parents for free.
I want to practice in florida
P/F
Cons
Very few residency programs.
Very little research opportunities
Primary care oriented school
No teaching hospital
3rd and 4th years are at community hospitals in various cities.
SLU
Pros
Tons of residency programs
P/F
Good reputation
Cons
Most expensive option currently. They offered no financial aid. CoA is 70k+ yearly
Saint Louis has a pretty high crime rate
My life goals:
I wanna end up doing private practice in Florida. If possible, I'd like to do a competitive/ semi competitive field. FSU is the most economical option but I am afraid of it hurting my residency prospects. But looking at their match lists, they have students matching into competitive fields.
At the same time, I am also afraid of being a small fish in a big pond if I attend SLU, Wake. My undergrad was pretty small and pretty laidback. I scored a 511 on my MCAT. I have a fear of doing poorly on Step 1 and then being shackled by the high tuitions of Wake, SLU.
If I do get into Wake, how much more is it worth paying yearly over FSU?
If I don't get into Wake, is it worth going to SLU even if its nearly 3 times as much yearly?
Thanks!
