As a re-applicant who has been suffering on waitlists for 2 years straight I NEVER EVER thought I would have choices for medical school. I don’t have any family members in medicine to give me advice so I would really appreciate any thoughts. I have to make a decision really soon and I have no confidence in my decision making right now. Both schools are far from family and private (expensive) so I am less concerned about those aspects. I am also waitlisted at Quinnipiac if anyone has any thoughts about that.
TCU
Pros
-P/F grading
-Very early and longitudinal clinical exposure
-Curriculum seems well thought and innovative
-Really, really loved my interview experience! Students seemed so happy with the school and faculty seem supportive.
-Small class size (60 students)
-Really impressive match list into competitive specialities
-School affiliated with great hospitals
-New facilities
Cons
-New school, although I am not really concerned with ranking/prestige tbh
-expensive, 70k per year tuition but everyone gets a 15% grant bringing it down to about 60,000
Meharry
Pros
-More established, wider alumni network
-Love the mission, I am passionate about working in underserved communities.
-Did not get to attend a HBCU for undergrad and I am interested.
-Faculty seem very supportive and students seem to act like a family.
-Slightly cheaper technically (59 k tuition per year)
Cons
-Letter graded (from interview it seems like this may be changing soon idk)
-Older facilities
-Curriculum seems less organized than TCU
I am 90% sure that I want to go to TCU, but I would love to hear more opinions. Please let me know what you think.
