Hey y’all! Currently torn between Sidney Kimmel Medical College (SKMC) and University of Florida College of Medicine (UFCOM). Any input is greatly appreciated!!

SKMC
Pros
  • P/F curriculum

  • Prerecorded lectures
  • Week off from school to study for the final exams
  • Research available
  • Previously attended Jeff so familiar with the school, some of my future classmates, and the area
  • Diverse patient population
  • Have established research and connections
Cons
  • Class ranked into thirds/ internal ranking system
  • $90k COA
  • Campus is meh
  • Car potentially needed for some rotations
UF
Pros
  • $60K COA
  • FL resident so can drive to see family and some friends
  • Preclinical p/f no rank
  • T35 school
  • Preceptorship
  • Gorgeous campus
  • Rotations in VA hospital
Cons
  • Third year rank
  • Gainesville :/
  • Car needed asap
Both
  • Well established schools w/ home hospital
  • Strong match lists
  • Students seemed happy at both institutions
  • I have a strong support system in either location
  • Time off to study for Step

I’d go with UF. It’s much cheaper, close to family, and marginally better reputation/prestige wise. Gainesville is…not great, but I’ve heard from many students that you learn to like it. You’re definitely right that you can succeed from either school though! Good luck and congrats on the great choices!

I’d go UF as well. Isn’t UF technically top 35 tho? At least if we’re going by USN research rankings
